Hello friends! I was going through my pictures yesterday and came across some from around Christmas time. Last Christmas we had two Christmas trees, the regular one and the kids one in the basement/playroom. All the ornaments on it were handmade. Since I did not blog at that time...I will post about it now. We used salt dough to make them, and there are a million recipes on the web for it with some variations. Here is one:
Basic Salt Dough Recipe
Ingredients:
■1 cup of fine salt
■1 cup of flour
■1/2 cup of water (may add more) Instructions:
■In a large bowl, combine the salt and the flour
■Make a well in the salt/flour mixture and add the water
■Knead until smooth and shape into a ball
■When not in use, wrap in plastic or store in an airtight container
Some of the ornaments were made by hand and some with cookie cutters, and yes my daughter made a yellow submarine....this is an obsession with my kids. You don't have to make ornaments since it is almost summer, you can use salt dough for just about anything...make picture frames...little animals...whatever their little hearts desire.
Dad helped too...
Then we baked them before painting
Little man needed some help
Now he's got it...notice the lack of that vinyl tablecloth? Could have come in handy on that day!
Sis getting in the spirit
So proud of his art
Everything looks better with LOTS of glitter
Some finished products
Oh yes she did, there it is...my favorite ornament...the yellow submarine
Some of mine...well the star is Bubba's but I wrote his name on it
